German ancient historian. Born Bogliasco (Genoa) 17. 4. 1898, died Reutlingen 24. 5. 1939. 1917 Abitur at Fichtegymnasium in Berlin; July 1917 to January 1919 war service. Studied ancient history at Berlin, Munich and Heidelberg. Doctorate Heidelberg 1922 with Alfred von Domaszewski on Plutarch’s Cimon [2]. 1923/24 in Britain. 1925 habil. with Wilhelm Weber at Halle on Plutarch and Greek biography [3]. 1932 appointed to the chair of ancient history at Tübingen.
