Dutch classical philologist. Born Leeuwarden 7. 6. 1715, died Leiden 15. 3. 1785. Son of a jurist. From 1731, after attending Latin school at Leeuwarden, studied theology at Franeker, also Greek philosophy with Tiberius Hemsterhuis; doctorate Franeker 1735 [5. Vol. 1, 3–102].
