Voss, Jansz Gerrit (Johann Gerhard); Dutch scholar, Humanist and theologian. Born March or April 1577 in Heidelberg, died Amsterdam 17. 3. 1649. Entered Latin school at Dordrecht 1587; from 1595 studied philosophy and theology at Univ. of Leiden. 1598 doctorate (MA). After two years at the faculty, became rector of the Latin school of Dordrecht; 1615–1619 rector of Collegium Theologicum in Leiden; from 1622 prof. of eloquence and history at the Univ. of Leiden.
