A. Historical dimension

The Greek poet E. lived around 350 BC, probably on the island of Telos (northwest of Rhodes; although the Suda also suggests Rhodes and Lesbos). She died young, probably at the age of nineteen (Anth. Pal. 9,190; 7,11) [03.305] – as was already assumed in Antiquity, probably based on the number 19 in line 37 of the papyrus (see below) [14.].
