Gnaeus P. ('Pompey', 106–48 BC) was a general and politician, and adversary of Caesar in the Civil Wars towards the end of the Roman Republic. As a highly successful military commander, he became one of the most powerful men in the Roman Empire, but he finally lost to Caesar in the struggle for ultimate power.
