A. Life

The English philosopher and statesman Francis B. was born on January 22, 1561, in London, and died on April 9, 1626 at Highgate near London. His father was the Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, Sir Nicholas Bacon. B. studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, from 1573 to 1575, before travelling to France in 1576–1579 as a member of an embassy.
