A. Life and travels

The German artist, Humanist, art theorist and entrepreneur Albrecht D. was born on May 21, 1471 at Nuremberg, where he also died on April 6, 1528 [2]. His father was a goldsmith and his godfather the printer and publisher Anton Koberger. His first studies were with his father and he studied painting from 1486 to 1489. He made the journeyman's tour through Germany from 1490 to 1494, and stayed at Basle and Strasbourg between 1492 and 1494. He travelled to study in Italy in 1494/95? and 1505/06, and to the Netherlands in 1520/21.
