The Humanist pedagogue, writer, editor, Catholic theologian and advocate of church reform ; ; ;  Jakob W. was born on July 25, 1450 at Sélestat (Schlettstadt, Alsace), where he also died on November 15, 1528. He attended the Sélestat Lateinschule under Ludwig Dringenberg before studying the artes liberales at Freiburg from 1464 and beginning studies in theology.
