The Temple of  Zeus at Olympia lies in the west of the Peloponnese (2.5.9.) in the ancient district of  Elis on the north bank of the Alpheus (upstream of the confluence with the Cladeus), some 20 km inland. Together with the complex of Delphi (2.5.6.), it was one of the two most prominent  Panhellenic sanctuaries, and festivals in honour of the father of the gods were held there in the summer every four years.…
