Northern Asia Minor, constituting the southern shore of the  Black Sea, comprised the ancient cultural landscapes of  Bithynia, Paphlagonia and  Pontus. The names Bithynia and Paphlagonia derive from the names given by early Greek settlers to the local populations [11].
