Coloniae

Town in northern  Picenum (regio V, tribus Velina) between Musone and Aspio, about 12 km from the Adriatic, modern Osimo. Evidence of both Picene (Osimo) and Celtic settlements (S. Paolina, S. Filippo). From 157 BC Roman colonia (praetores). In 83 BC, it served as a base for Pompey's levy. Besieged by Attius Varius, A. fell to Caesar in 49 BC.
