City on the right bank of the Hydaspes (modern Jhelum), founded by Alexander  the Great on the site of the battle with Porus ( Porus) and named after his warhorse Bucephalus (Arr. Anab. 5,19,4; Curt.). Still known in the early imperial period (Plin. HN; Peripl. m.r.; Ptol.). According to Lamotte mentioned in Buddhist literature as Bhadāśva . Its exact location is disputed.
