Capital (oppidum) of the Vediantian Ligures, already inhabited in the Neolithic age, modern Cimiez near Nice. Under Augustus capital of the province of Alpes Maritimae (Diod. Sic. 29,28; Ptol. 3,1,43; Plin. HN 3,47), C. was a municipium of the tribus Claudia under the administration of IIviri on the via Iulia Augusta; under Diocletian, C. was assigned to Eburodunum in the Alpes Cottiae (It.
