The Indo-Aryan languages (IL) comprise the majority of those Indo-European languages that have been spoken on the Indian sub-continent since the immigration from the north-west in the 2nd millennium BC. Together with the Iranian languages, they form the Indo-Iranian branch of this family of languages.
