A non-Greek language is attested on Lemnos in the north-eastern Aegean from the period before Attic colonization (500 BC) (two texts - of 32 words - on a funerary stele, nine texts/fragments on vessels). Lemnian is similar to Etruscan in its sound system, morphology and syntax (e.g. in the dating formula: Lemnian holaie-s-i φ okias-ial-e serona-i θ ‘ during the S. office of H.
