(Μαραθών; Marathṓn). Large Attic paralia deme of the Aeantis phyle, 10 (?) bouleutai , in a flat coastal area in the east of Attica, capital of the Attic Tetrapolis (M., Oenoe, Probalinthus, Tricorynthus), not identical with modern Marathonas. The name is pre-Greek.
