(Μεγακλείδης; Megakleídēs). Peripatetic exegete of Homer, contemporary of Ephorus, Philochorus and Chamaeleon (cf. Tatian, Oratio ad Graecos 31,2; Eus. Pr. Ev. 10,11,3). He must therefore have lived in the second half of the 4th cent. BC. M.'s interpretations of Homer, which in addition to criticism (cf. schol. Hom. Il. 22,36) and questions of composition (cf. ibid. 16,140) are primarily concerned with factual issues, are preserved only in fragments. They probably stem from a work ‘On Homer …
