Inst. 128-133 distinguishes between ‘cash debts’ (nomina arcaria), which arose e.g. from loans ( mutuum , see also condictio ), and ‘ledger debts’ (nomina transscripticia), which arose by an entry in the ‘ledger’ of the creditor as an obligation from a litterarum obligatio .
