(Παχράτης/Pachrátēs). Magician and prophet from Heliopolis , proved his craft to emperor Hadrian with the help of a smoke sacrifice to Selene, in recognition of which he received double his fee (PGM 1, P 4,2446ff.). P. may have served as inspiration for the figure of the magician Pancrates in Lucian. Philopseudes 34-36  and is perhaps identical [2. 618f.] with the poet Pancrates .
