(Σάλων/Sálōn, Σαλῶναι/Salônai). City in Dalmatia on Kaštela Bay above the mouth of the Jadro with an important natural harbour protected by islands and peninsulas off the coast. The ancient remains of S. (practically only foundation walls survive) lie to the north and west of modern Solin, a suburb of Split.
