Of Daunian origin, according to  Str. 6,3,9 founded by Diomedes [1], in 330 BC occupied by Alexander [6]  (Liv. 8,34), in 194 BC a Roman colonia (Liv. 34,45), in 185 BC renewed colonisation (Liv. 39,23).
