A treasury of personal and communal objects once belonging to the Jews of Danzig. These items were sent from Danzig to the Jewish Theological Seminary of America of New York for safekeeping during the Holocaust, and are now part of the collections of the Jewish Museum of New York. Catalog includes: a preface about the exhibition and its origins (Joy Ungerleider-Mayerson), reflections on the Holocaust (Günter Grass), a short history of Danzig Jewry (Gerson C. Bacon), an essay on the Danzig Treasures (Joseph Gutmann), a biographical essay about the collector Lesser Gieldzinski (Elizabeth Cats), extensive entries for each exhibit (Vivian B. Mann and Joseph Gutmann), and a checklist of items not on exhibit. 134 items. |
