Beit Hatfutsot (Summer 1983)

The Israeli showing of an exhibition that originated in New York, presenting the history of Danzig’s Jewish community. At the heart of the exhibition was a collection of ceremonial objects that were sent from Danzig to the United States for safe-keeping during the Holocaust. To this core of objects, Beit Hatfutsot added a group of photographs documenting the activities of the Zionist Histadrut and the Zionist youth movement in Danzig. Summaries of five essays from the original Jewish Museum catalog, including (in Hebrew): the history of the Danzig Collection (Joy Ungerleider-Mayerson), “How Will We Tell Our Children?” (Günter Grass), “Short History of the Jews of Danzig” (Gerson Bacon), and the “Treasures of Danzig” (Joseph Gutmann).
