Description

The art and inscriptions of Ukrainian tombstones, researched and presented by graduate students of the Museology course at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The 23 rubbings documented by these students were produced by young Russian Jews from St. Petersburg dedicated to documenting Jewish life throughout Russia and the U.S.S.R. Foreword by the course instructor, Shalom Sabar. Five catalog essays on: tombstone art, Jewish funerary art in antiquity, the shtetl, visual motifs on Ukrainian tombstones, and tombstone inscriptions. Basic listing.
