Posters that were confiscated from YIVO (in Vilna) by the Nazis, recovered by American troops after the Holocaust, and returned to YIVO in New York. These historical documents, displayed for the first time in their native Poland, illustrate and interpret contemporary events and provide a record of social and political upheavals that shaped history. Title essay by Krysia Fisher and Marek Web. Catalog listing, with transcription of each poster’s text, presented according to the themes of: Social Life, Education, Health Care, Cultural Life, Sport, Political Life, and Antisemitism. 143 items.
