Description

Early attempts of modern Jewish artists to extract folk motifs from their original context—as decorative elements on religious items—and integrate them with secular works, such as books, prints, and paintings. Judaica items were displayed alongside the works of Ryback, Altman, Chagall, Lissitsky and others. A separate section presented Mané-Katz’s depictions of Judaica. Two essays discuss Mané-Katz’s ceremonial objects (Svetlana Reingold) and their iconography (Boris Chaimovich). No itemized listing. Circa 36 items.
