Description

An exhibition in two parts about the experiences of groups of Jews who have migrated to Germany post-World War II. This first installment focused on Eastern European Jews who survived the Holocaust and resided in Germany as Displaced Persons. Focusing on individuals and their life stories, the uncertainty they faced and endured in the DP camps, their everyday life, history and culture, the exhibition presented seemingly “worthless” objects whose meaning is revealed through personal stories and memories. The exhibition also took the visitor to a silhouetted reconstruction of Germany’s longest-running DP camp (present-day Wolfratshausen-Waldram) to provide insight into different aspects of camp life and the stories of individual families. Foreword by Bernhard Purin. Introduction to the exhibition by Jutta Fleckenstein and Tamar Lewinsky. “Objects and essays” by Eastern European Holocaust survivors. Basic listing. 138 items.
