Description |
Biblical manuscripts and printed books that form the core of the world’s largest private collection of rare biblical texts and artifacts. Exhibits displayed in 8 galleries, each of which recreated an ancient or medieval space. Gallery 1, dominated by a partial scaled reproduction of the Dura Europos synagogue, featured Hebrew codices and Torah scrolls, from early centuries to the Holocaust. Gallery 2, which recreated of one of the most famous caves at Qumran, displayed manuscripts and items related to the Dead Sea sects. Galleries 3–8 contained Christian matieral, set within the environments of an archaeological dig, a monastic scriptorium, Gutenberg’s print shop, Wartburg Castle, and Westminster Abbey’s “Jerusalem chamber”. 156 items. |
