Description

A unique installation by artist Barbara Bloom, in which 276 works from the Museum’s collections were arranged in unconventional contexts and juxtapositions, within rooms “furnished” by Judaica. Inspired in part by Talmudic discourse, in which discussions and commentaries take place across time and space, Bloom filled the paneled rooms of the former Warburg Mansion with imagined historical guests engaging in discourse and argument over wide-ranging topics. Museum pieces, found texts, Bloom’s writings, and furniture-shaped display cases provided the setting and inspiration for these tableaux, which offered visitors a new way to view the museum and its holdings. Exhibits included significant numbers of Torah pointers, spice containers, amulets and kiddush cups. No itemized listing. 276 items.
