Description

The major portion of “Sacred Places, Sacred Books”, a two-part exhibition that explored the commonalities and differences between Judaism, Christianity and Islam. “Sacred Places” focused on these religions’ shared phenomenon of pilgrimage, whether to Jerusalem, Rome, or Mecca, showing the magnetic force of attraction they have had on people throughout the ages. Introductory essay by Chris de Lauwer. Major essays on pilgrimages to sacred places in Judaism (Edward van Voolen), Christianity (Guus van den Hout, Bert Treffers), and Islam (Luitgard Mols, Mirjam Shatanawi). Additional essays include “Pilgrimages: Being On and Off the Right Track” (Walter van Herck), “The Eternal City” (Rosita Steenbeek), and “Pilgrims in Antwerp” (Vera de Boeck, Ghislain Belmans).
