Description

Documents from the Leo Baeck Institute, New York, and objects from Berlin and Leipzig collections, highlighting the history of Leipzig’s Jewish community. Exhibits recalled the early Jewish presence in the 16th–18th C (when Jews were only permitted short stays in the city), the flourishing permanent community of the 19th–20th C, its destruction in the Holocaust, and its renewal since 1945. Included section on Leipzig’s synagogue, and images of cemeteries. No itemized listing.

Description

The exhibition opened as part of Leipzig’s week-long Jewish festival “Schalom”.
