Description

Twenty treasures presented as a medium of family memory. Each item’s history and meaning was narrated by a family member, some of whom were never able to meet the parents, grandparents or relatives associated with the object. Vintage family pictures of the original owners, who lived normal lives before the Holocaust, accompanied most exhibits. Two essays: “The Jewish Family in the Present” (Peter Salner), on family and Jewish life in Bratislava before and after the Holocaust, and “Family Memory, Hidden in objects” (Monika Vrzgulová), on the role of the object as conveyor of memory. In-depth entries for each exhibit. 20 items.
