| Description |
A photographic and archival exhibition on Jewish life during the period of Normalization (beginning in 1968), when, under Soviet military occupation, Czechoslovak society was to return to a rigid ideological socialism wholly subject to Moscow’s dictates. In addition to showing the forms of anti-Zionist propaganda used during this period, secret police operations against Jewish communities (including surveillance images), the impact of these activities on Jewish lives, and individual Jew’s participation in dissident acts, the exhibition also recounts the destruction of synagogues and cemeteries, and various other acts meant to completely eradicate Judaism and the Jewish past. Richly-illustrated catalog with preface by Leo Pavlát and 11 essays on such topics as: the theme of the exhibition, the State Security’s obsession with Zionists and Zionism, the Normalization of Jewish institutions, official and unofficial literature, and the destruction of synagogues and cemeteries (“Out of Sight, Out of Mind”, pp. 87–105).
