Yudovin’s images of Eastern European Jews, taken while he served as An-sky’s expedition photographer, 1912–1914. These documentary/artistic works were considered within the broader context of Russian attitudes towards professional photography in the early 20th C, the trend for ethnographic photo albums, and the emergence of photography as “high art”. Attention also paid to the impact of these early years on Yudovin’s later works. Photographs with brief captions. 20 items.
