Tell Ahmar 6 (Qubbah Stele) (4.10)

This amazingly preserved stele was reported to lie in the River Euphrates in June 1999, and was successfully removed from the river in July by the team of the Tell Ahmar Archaeological Project, who has been excavating at Tell Ahmar from 1988 under the direction of Dr. Guy Bunnens. It was taken to the Museum of Aleppo, where it has been excellently restored.

The stele is one of a series found at Tell Ahmar and in its environs and bears the longest and best preserved inscription. Most are the work of Hamiyata, the ruler of the city known to the Assy…
