M.6060 is a fragmentary tablet that preserves portions of an oath that was sworn to Zimri-Lim. Zimri-Lim imposed similar oaths on many of the functionaries in his administration, especially those who had previously served under the former king of Mari, Yasmah-Addu (cf., for example, the introduction to FM 2.116 [4.60]). This oath, while incomplete, is notable because it encapsulated the duality of Zimri-Lim’s authority over both mobile populations in the steppe as well as over more sedentary, settled population…
