Ibal-El, a merḫûm,1 wrote this letter to the king regarding matters in the western reaches of the upper Habur, at the city of Talhayum. According to the report from Mesiran, a certain Samsi-erah along with troops of the ḫapīrū 2 had been smuggled into the city of Talhayum, perhaps by the elders of the city.3 In the chaos that ensued within the city, Talhayum’s king was killed, and the people of the city established a new king (cf.
