I. Name
The name of the Egyptian goddess Bastet occurs in the Bible in Ezek. 30.17 as part of the name Pibeseth, (פי־בסת) an Egyptian town in the Delta near the modern Zagazig. The place of the ancient town is callednowadays Tell Basta. The Greek name was Boubastis and the Hebrew rendering Pî-beset. The ancient Egyptian name of the town was pr-bʒstt (lit. House of Bastet).
