I. Name

In several passages in the OT a group of heavenly beings other than Yahweh is referred to by the expressions bĕnê ʿelyôn “children of Elyon” (Ps. 82.6) and bĕnê ʾēlîm (Ps. 29.1; Ps. 89.7) or bĕnê (hā) ʾĕlōhîm (Gen. 6.2, Gen. 4; Job 1.6; Job 2.1; Job 38.7; and originally Deut. 32.8) “children of God”, “children of (the) gods” or “divine beings”.
