ʿAbd al-Malik I, Abū al-Fawāris ʿAbd al-Malik, known as Amīr-i Rashīd, was one of the Sāmānid princes (r. Rabīʿ II 343–Shawwāl 350/August 954–November 961) and the eldest son of Nūḥ b. Naṣr.

According to Narshakhī (p. 134), ʿAbd al-Malik began his reign at the age of ten: given he came to the throne in 343/954, that would place his date of birth in 333/944 or 945. On the other hand, according to Narshakhī's fellow-historian and contemporary, Ḥamza al-Iṣfahānī (p. 179), ʿAbd al-Malik was born in 324/936, which would mean that h…
