ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā (d. 83/702), Abū ʿĪsā ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā al-Anṣārī al-Kūfī, was a jurist, judge, reciter of the Qurʾān and traditionist. The exact date of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān's birth is unclear: Abū Nuʿaym (4/353) says that he was born during Abū Bakr's caliphate; however, according to other historians, he was born six years before the end of ʿUmar's caliphate (Ibn Ḥajar, 6/260; al-Khaṭīb, 10/199).
