Abū al-Faraj b. Masʿūd al-Rūnī, famous poet of the middle period of Ghaznawid rule and better known as Bulfaraj (d. after 492/1099). There is some difference of opinion regarding his birthplace and origins. Some reports state that he was from Rūna, a district of Dasht-i Khāwarān, others that he hailed from one of the villages of Nīsābūr (Mustawfī, 718; Hidāyat, 1/151; Ādhar, 2/668), whilst the majority of 10th/16th and 11th/17th century biographers in India maintained that he was from Rūn (or Ruwayn…
