Abū al-Futūḥ al-ʿIjlī, Muntajab al-Dīn Asʿad b. Maḥmūd b. Khalaf b. Aḥmad al-Iṣfahānī (515–600/1121–1204), was a Shāfiʿī jurist and preacher. Some sources give 514/1120 as the year of his birth (Ibn Khallikān, 1/209). He was known as a devout and pious person who earned his living as a seller of paper. Nevertheless, he had the authority to issue fatwās (legal opinions) in Iṣfahān (al-Mundhirī, 2/10–11; al-Dhahabī, al-Mukhtaṣar, 144).
