Abū al-Ḥasan al-Jurjānī

Abū al-Ḥasan al-Jurjānī, ʿAlī b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Ismāʿīl (d. 23 Dhū al-Ḥijja 392/2 November 1002), was a man of letters, a Shāfiʿī jurist and a Muʿtazilī theologian. His date of birth is not known. However, according to Yāqūt's report from al-Ḥākim al-Nīsābūrī, in 337/948, when Abū al-Ḥasan and his brother, Abū Bakr, went to Nīsābūr in order to study ḥadīth, he was around the age of puberty (Yāqūt, 13/15).
