Abū al-Maʿālī Lāhūrī

Abū al-Maʿālī Lāhūrī, Khayr al-Dīn b. Raḥmat Allāh (960–1024/1553–1615), was a gnostic (ʿārif) of the Qādiriyya Sufi order and author of Persian works, from the Indian subcontinent. His ancestors, who were Kirmānī sayyids, went to the Punjab in the early 10th/16th century and settled there (Ghulām Sarwar, 1/149; Ẓuhūr al-Dīn, 24–25). Abū al-Maʿālī was born in Shergarh (Punjab) (Ẓuhūr al-Dīn, 24). His paternal uncle was Shaykh Dāwūd Kirmānī, a prominent ʿārif of the Qādiriyya (Badāʾūnī, 3/28 et passim).
