Abū al-Ṭayyib al-Ṭabarī

Abū al-Ṭayyib al-Ṭabarī, Ṭāhir b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ṭāhir (348–450/959–1058), was a well-known Shāfiʿī jurist. He was born in Āmul (al-Khaṭīb, 9/359; Abū Isḥāq, 127), where he is said to have begun his education in the science of ḥadīth at the age of fourteen (al-Khaṭīb, 9/359; Ibn al-Jawzī, Ṣifa, 2/494). He also attended Abū ʿAlī al-Zujājī's classes in jurisprudence (Abū Isḥāq 117, 127; al-Samʿānī, 9/43; cf. Ibn Abī al-Dam, 443, who refers erroneously to Abū ʿAlī al-Thaqafī instead of Abū ʿAlī al-Zujājī).
