Abū Yaʿlā al-Jaʿfarī

Abū Yaʿlā al-Jaʿfarī, Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan b. Ḥamza (d. 463/1071), was an Imāmī jurist and theologian in Baghdad. Due to his descent from Jaʿfar b. Abī Ṭālib, he was known as al-Jaʿfarī and sometimes as al-Ṭālibī (al-Ḥulwānī, 98; Abū Ṭālib, 185–186). Apart from Imāmī biographical (rijālī) sources such as the Rijāl of al-Najāshī (his contemporary) and Ibn Shahrāshūb's Maʿālim al-ʿulamāʾ, he is also mentioned in Sunni sources, which include a brief biography.
