al-Baḥrānī, Hāshim

al-Baḥrānī, Hāshim b. Sulaymān b. Ismāʿīl al-Ḥusaynī al-Tūblī (d. 1107/1695), was an Imāmī Shiʿi traditionist and commentator. He was a descendant of al-Sharīf al-Murtaḍā ʿAlam al-Hudā and Imam Mūsā b. Jaʿfar al-Kāẓim (Afandī, 5/298). Al-Baḥrānī was born into a scholarly family from the village of Katkān in Tūblī, which was at that time the seat of the rulers of Bahrain (al-Baḥrānī, Yūsuf, 63). It is likely that he was born there not later than 1050/1640 (Madelung, 3/528).
