ʿAlī b. Maymūn, Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn ʿAlī b. Maymūn al-Maghribī al-Fāsī al-Ghumārī (d. 917/1511), a scholar and Sufi master from the Maghrib. He was born in the region of Ghumāra, near Fās (Fez), and hence was known both as ‘al-Fāsī’ and ‘al-Ghumārī’ (Ibn Ṭūlūn, 1/359; Ibn al-Ḥanbalī, 1(2)/952; al-Ghazzī, 1/271). In his Taʾrīkh Ibn al-Ḥanbalī quotes sections from ʿAlī b.
