Bam, Arg, the largest adobe structure in the world prior to the earthquake of October 2003, with a surface area of approximately 200,000 sq m. The arg, or citadel, was the original site of the city of Bam, which is situated in a desert environment on the southern edge of the Iranian high plateau (at an altitude of 1060 m).
